Retail (SGTIN96) or Pro Tags? What type of Product Definition should I use?

RFIDLinked supports two types of Product Definitions: Retail (SGTIN96) and Pro Tags.

Retail (SGTIN96)

Retail tags use the SGTIN96 encoding scheme and require a GTIN (Global Trade Identification Number) from GS1, the nonprofit organization that manages barcode and RFID standards. This option is best if you sell products in retail stores or through vendors like Amazon and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Who should use Retail SGTIN96?

  • If you already own UPCs or GTINs for the items you wish to tag.
  • If the items you are tagging be sent to and sold via third-party retailers. (Walmart, Amazon, etc...)
  • You want to use UPCs or GTINs on the items you are tagging (Purchase required from GS1).

RFIDLinked Pro Tags

This option is ideal for small to medium-sized businesses that need an easy way to start printing and scanning RFID tags without complex setup. Designed for internal use, making it perfect for inventory tracking.

Who should use RFIDLinked Pro Tags?

  • You don't already own UPCs or GTINs, and you do not wish to purchase any from GS1.
  • The items you are tagging will be used for internal systems or tracking.
