Automating Scanning with Triggers

Integrating Input/Outputs with RFIDLinked

The Chainway U300 supports 4 general purpose input pins, and 4 general purpose output pins.  These pins allow you interface and integrate the U300 device with external components or systems, and automate scanning within RFIDLinked by setting up Triggers.  Triggers allow you to setup RFIDLinked to automatically start and stop scanning RFID tags based on external inputs.

You can setup Input Triggers by going to "Settings" and then "Device Settings" and selecting the "Triggers" tab.

Input Triggers

Input triggers allow you to use up to 4 inputs to trigger scanning within RFIDLinked.  Each input pin can be configured using one of the below types of triggers to activate scanning.

Trigger Type - Hold to Scan

The "Hold to Scan" trigger allows you to setup RFIDLinked to start scanning when the trigger is activated.  When the input is no longer triggered, it will automatically stop scanning.

Trigger Type - Timed Scan

The "Timed Scan" trigger allows you to setup RFIDLinked to start scanning when the trigger is activated, and continue to scan for a configured amount of time, ranging from 3 seconds up to 180 seconds.

Output Actions

Each configured input trigger has the option to modify the 1 or more of the 4 outputs on the U300 device, either turning the output On or Off.

You can use these outputs to do things like turn on an external light, or run sound a buzzer when RFIDLinked is scanning.  You can also use this to integrate with other systems or devices as needed.

Use Cases

Example Use Case - Press to Scan Physical Button

In this use case, you could install a physical momentary switch and associate it with a "Hold to Scan" trigger in RFIDLinked.  When the operator wants to scan items within range of the Fixed Mount scanner, they would simply press and hold the button to activate RFIDLinked and begin scanning tags.  When they have completed the scan, the operator would release the momentary switch.

Example Use Case - Light Sensor to Scan

In this use case, you could setup a light sensor on a door.  When a pallet of goods is brought through the door, it will trip the light sensor.  When this sensor is associated with a "Timed Scan" trigger, RFIDLinked will automatically began scanning for tags, collecting anything contained on the pallet.
