A Product Definition in RFIDLinked represents a specific item or product you want to generate RFID tags for. It lets you predefine all the key data points for that product—such as name, style, size, and other attributes—so you don’t need to re-enter them each time you print tags. Once created, you can quickly select a Product Definition from a list and generate/print tags associating them with these data points. In addition, every tag printed for a given Product Definition will be assigned a unique serial number for easy auditing.
RFIDLinked supports two types of Product Definition currently: Retail (SGTIN96) and Pro Tags. (What are the differences?)
Retail SGTIN96 Product Definitions
Retail/SGTIN96 Product Definitions are used for generating and tracking Retail RFID tags encoding GS1 GTIN14 numbers using the SGTIN96 standard. You can read more about the GTIN14 encoding scheme from GS1. GTIN14's underpin every retail RFID tag and are used to uniquely identify a product being tagged.
A Retail SGTIN96 Product Definition consists of the following required fields:
- Company Identifier - One piece of a GTIN14. It is used to identify which Company owns the product.
- Product Identifier - The 2nd piece of a GTIN14. It is used to identify a specific product owned by the above company.
-
Name - The name field is used to provide a human readable value to associate with the product.
The GTIN14 combines the above Company and Product identifiers into a single 14 digit number to unique identify a product.
RFIDLinked Pro Tag Product Definitions
Pro Tag Product Definitions are used for generating and
tracking internally used RFID tags, and does not require purchasing GS1 GTIN14 numbers. It was built to allow users who do not need to comply with third-party enforced requirements for their tags to quick get up and going with RFID technologies.
A RFIDLinked Pro Tag Product Definition consists of the following required fields:
- Id - An automatically assigned internal identifier for each Product Definition.
- Name - The name field is used to provide a human readable value to associate with the product and must be unique.
Optional Product Definition fields:
- Description - Used to provide a short description about the product.
-
Custom Fields - You can define and associate multiple custom fields against each product definition. These can be things like "color", "size", etc... Read more about Custom Fields on our Blog.
Tracking Serials / Serialization
RFIDLinked automatically manages serialization on a per Product Definition basis. Any tags generated/printed via a Product Definition will record which serials have been used and allow for auditing of those serials for compliance.
