Tag Finder: Locating Tags

What is Tag Finder

The Tag Finder feature is designed for locating tags (typically in bulk) whose physical location is unknown.  It allows multiple different methods of feeding in tags you want to locate, and RFIDLinked filters for all tags that match the criteria. The application shows tags currently in range, all matching tags seen during the session, and tags that were defined in the search criteria but not found allowing for easy verification of what tags are yet to be found.

How to Get Started

The first step is to determine how you want to load your search criteria.  RFIDLinked provides three methods of defining which tags you want to locate.

Please review the guide for the workflow that best applies to your situation before continuing with this guide.

Manual Entry

Directly enter EPC or Tag ID values for the tags you want to find, with the ability to scan input using a 1d/2d barcode scanner.

CSV Upload

Upload a CSV file containing EPC or Tag IDs, allowing for quick loading bulk tag searches.

Saved File Selection

Choose tags from a previously saved file, enabling quick access to commonly used tags.

Using Tag Finder

Once you've completed the setup process to load the tags you want to locate, you will be presented with the Tag Finder interface.  Lets get familiar with it.

At the top you have your header / action bar.  You can clear and reset your session with the red Reset button, this will clear any found tags from the current session.  The SAVE button allows you to save any found tags to a new file, for future use and sharing within RFIDLinked.

NOTE: Only found tags will be saved to the file, it is not possible to save tags which were not found.

Next is your View Selector which gives you three ways to visualize your session.  More about these in a moment.

To the right is your Power Adjustment.  You can use it to boost the power level of your scan, increasing it to reach tags further away, or decreasing it to narrow your search field.

At the bottom is your SCAN button to start and stop scanning/searching.  Alternatively you can pull the trigger of your device to start and stop scans.

View: In Range (1)

The In Range view displays all tags that match your search criteria and are currently "in range" and actively pinging. It shows the signal strength of these tags.  Any tag which drops out of range, will disappear from the list after 7 seconds. This feature allows you to easily identify nearby tags and relative distance.

NOTE: To pause this view, simply stop scanning, and the tags in range at the time will remain until you start scanning again.

View: Found (2)

Here you’ll see a list of all tags that your scanner has located that match your search criteria since the start of the session, including those that have gone out of range. This comprehensive view ensures that you can review every tag you've encountered during your search.

View: Rules (3)

This view provides a checklist-style overview based on your original search criteria, showing which items have been found and which are still missing. It’s an invaluable tool for ensuring that no tag is overlooked.

Tag Details and Honing In On A Specific Tag

From the In Range or Found view, you can tap on any tag to get more details about it.  Additionally, if you want to really zero in on the location of one specific tag, you can tap the LOCATE button from here.
