Installing the RFIDLinked Print Agent

The RFIDLinked Print Agent is a lightweight desktop application required for printing RFID tags from the RFIDLinked web application. Because web browsers cannot directly communicate with USB devices or local network printers, the Print Agent acts as a secure bridge between your browser and your RFID-enabled printers.

This article walks you through:

  • Downloading the correct Print Agent installer

  • Installing the Print Agent on Windows or macOS

  • Confirming the Print Agent is running and accessible from your system tray or menu bar

1. Downloading the Print Agent

To get started, download the RFIDLinked Print Agent installer for your operating system.

Important: Make sure you select the installer that matches your operating system.

Once the installer has finished downloading, follow the instructions below for your operating system.

2. Installing on Windows

Installation Steps

1. Locate the downloaded rfidlinked-print-agent-setup.exe file (typically in your Downloads folder).
2. Double-click the installer to begin the setup process.
3. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

4. NOTE: As part of the installation process, USB drivers will be installed for supported printers.  You may be prompted to confirm the installation of these.

5. When the installation process completes, you will be prompted to launch the agent.  Additionally a shortcut to the Print Agent will be saved to your desktop.

After Installation

IMPORTANT: When you first launch the Print Agent you may be prompted to allow access to public and private networks.  You must click allow on this prompt, or the agent will be unable to communicate with the RFIDLinked web application or any network printers.

The Print Agent software will only use your network to communicate with RFIDLinked's servers during printing, for performing auto-updates, and with any network based printers that you have configured.

Once installed, the Print Agent runs in the background and appears in the Windows system tray (near the clock).

  • Closing the Print Agent window does not stop the application unless you explicitly select the quit option.

  • The Print Agent continues running so it can receive print jobs from the web app

To reopen the Print Agent interface:

  1. Click the up arrow (^) in the system tray if the icon is hidden.

  2. Click the RFIDLinked Print Agent icon.

To quit the Print Agent:

  1. Click the up arrow (^) in the system tray if the icon is hidden.

  2. Click the RFIDLinked Print Agent icon.

  3. Select "Quit" and the agent will close.  You will need to re-launch the Print Agent if you want to print tags again later.

3. Installing on macOS (DMG Installer)

The macOS version of the RFIDLinked Print Agent is distributed as a DMG file.

Installation Steps

  1. Locate the downloaded rfidlinked-print-agent.dmg file.

  2. Double-click the DMG to open it.

  3. Drag the RFIDLinked Print Agent application into the Applications folder.

  4. Open Applications and double-click RFIDLinked Print Agent to launch it.

You may be prompted by macOS to confirm that you want to open the application. Approve the prompt to continue.

After Installation

When running, the Print Agent appears in the macOS menu bar at the top of the screen.

  • Closing the Print Agent window does not quit the application

  • The Print Agent continues running in the background to handle print requests

To reopen the Print Agent interface:

  1. Click the RFIDLinked Print Agent icon in the menu bar and select "Show"

  2. Select the appropriate menu option to open the application window.

  • The Print Agent is currently running (visible in the tray or menu bar)

If the Print Agent is not running, open it manually from:
